Am 10. Februar ab 14:00 Uhr möchten wir für interessierte Studierende am Vertiefungsfach unser Institut und die Möglichkeiten, die sich bei uns zur Anfertigung einer Bachelor- oder Masterarbeit anbieten, vorstellen. Dabei ist ein Gespräch mit wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeitern über deren Forschungsgebiete möglich.

In many cases, nanotechnology is considered one of the most important key technologies of the 21st century. This technology deals with nanoparticles. That is, particles ranging in size from one million-th of a million-th of a millimeter which is 100 to more than 1000 times smaller than the diameter of a hair. At this scale, it is not only the chemical composition, but also the size and shape of individual particles, which determine its properties. Optical, electrical and magnetic properties, as well as hardness, toughness or melting point of nanomaterials differ significantly from the macroscopic properties of solids.

For this reason, nanotechnology offers the opportunity to create entirely new materials that are tailored to the needs of the market and consumers. Prerequisites are innovative manufacturing processes that constitute the global objective of many research efforts.

One of the best known nanomaterials is soot, which is in many other contexts an unwanted by-product. Therefore, methods that are investigated that allow for the controlled generation and soot with specific particle size distributions.
