Store&Go

Innovative large-scale energy STOragE technologies AND Power-to-Gas concepts after Optimisation

In the "STORE&GO" project, three innovative "Power to Gas" (PtG) storage concepts will be demonstrated at locations in Germany, Switzerland and Italy to overcome technical, economic, social and legal limitations for their deployment. These demonstration plants will pave the way for the integration of the PtG storage concept into flexible energy supply and distribution systems with a high share of renewable energies.

By using the methanation process as a bridging technology, the project will demonstrate and explore how these innovative PtG concepts are able to solve the main problems of renewable energy sources:

  • Fluctuating renewable energy generation;
  • The consideration of renewable energy in suboptimal distribution grids;
  • Costs;
  • Lack of storage solutions for renewable energy on local, national and European level.

At the same time, PtG concepts will contribute to the provision of natural gas or SNG in the existing very large European infrastructure and improve the already beneficial and continuously reduced environmental footprint as a primary/secondary energy source.

Therefore, SORE&GO will demonstrate that PtG concepts can bridge the gaps associated with renewables and their secure supply. STORE&GO will increase the uptake of renewable energy technologies by demonstrating the bridging technology at three "live" sites in Europe.
