Investigation of the flame structure in porous inert media
In the following projects, investigations on combustion in porous media are carried out:
In BioRoburPlus, burners made of porous inert media (PIM) are used to utilize the sensible heat of lean gases resulting from a process to produce hydrogen from biogas. The porous burner is used for the stable combustion of this low calorific gas as well as the biogas. The resulting flexibility in the fuel composition is a central advantage of combustion in PIM.
In ECCO, PIMs are used as radiant burners. The project focuses on the stable combustion of solvents with a high aromatic content and the most efficient possible extraction of radiant energy. Both are to be realized with the aid of controlled porous structures.
